About Me
Hello, my name is Teddy and I’m a Running Coach.
After over a decade working in marketing including some awesome roles at Strava and Nike, in 2023 I decided to pair two of my biggest passions: supporting people to be the best version of themselves and running!
Running has always been a part of my life. My parents were marathon runners (back when it wasn’t super cool, and they didn’t have super shoes, wearables, or gels!). I rebelled against running for a while but soon discovered the joys of it for myself in my early 20s. That feeling of freedom, just you outdoors in nature, exploring somewhere new, the rush of endorphins, achieving new things and breaking down self-limiting beliefs. I went from 10ks to half marathons and used to look at marathon runners and think, “You must be nuts, this is far enough, I could never do that.”
However, I started to get curious… Could I do that? I entered the London Marathon ballot in 2015 and was lucky enough to get a spot. From then, I was hooked! I still doubted I could ever run further, though, as 26.2 miles is really far and challenging. At one point, coming down Embankment in the race, my feet were so sore, I thought, “Have I worn through the sole of these shoes? There feels like zero cushioning down there” (I hadn’t!). Fast forward ten years, and I went from being a middle-of-the-pack runner to completing five marathons (not that it’s about the time, but I know people are interested—3:24 is my PB) and three ultras (and as it’s the About Me section, these include a 1st place and a joint FKT for the Guernsey Round with my good friend Jess).
To be a good coach, I believe it’s not a necessity to be a fast runner, it’s about guiding people along their own unique journey, helping them achieve their personal goals with a blend of science and support. It’s about listening to their motivations, likes and dislikes, understanding their strengths and weaknesses, and building a strong relationship to work together. It’s about helping them to see what they might not believe they can do yet. You need to keep challenging yourself, too, to develop as a coach.
In February 2024, I qualified as a Coach in Running Fitness from England Athletics. I’m currently the Lead Run Coach for the Bath Amphibians Triathlon Club and have a range of runners as private clients, from those training for ultras and marathon PBs to those getting back into running after a break.
